Peanut and Tree Nut Allergies

Peanut and Tree Nut Allergies
At Peace Dale School a peanut, tree nut, or any allergy is taken very seriously because some children have severe reactions to that can be life-threatening.  A person with this type of allergy may stop breathing (anaphylaxis) in less than a minute of smelling, eating or touching the identified food.
In Rhode Island a law was passed in 2007 that protects students who have allergies to peanuts and /or tree nuts while at school. The goal of the law is to help schools provide a safe environment for all students.
At Peace Dale there are certain classrooms that are designated as peanut/tree nut free. If your child is in one of these classrooms, you have already been notified with a letter explaining that peanut/tree nut products should not be consumed at snack time. These foods are acceptable at lunch time in the cafeteria. Parents can help keep the classroom safe by reading labels. If a product says it contains peanuts or nuts it is not an appropriate snack for the classroom. Thank you for your careful consideration of this important rule.
